Professional experience in brief

I have over 31 year’s post-Ph.D. research and teaching experience.

I am currently Professor at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR), Mumbai. I was a Member of the Board of Management of IGIDR, where I also held the positions of Dean of Academic and Student Affairs, Dean of Faculties, and Dean Academic Affairs.

I am a Member of the National Statistical Commission, Government of India, and Academic Council, Vidyashilp University, Bengaluru.

I was a Member of the Quinquennial Review Team (QRT) for the National Institute of Agricultural Economics and Policy Research, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Advisory Committee on National Accounts Statistics (ACNAS) and the Working Group for the 77th Round of NSS, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Government of India.

I have also worked as Regional Advisor at United Nations-Economic Social Commission for Asia Pacific (UN-ESCAP), Bangkok, and as Research Fellow at International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), New Delhi.

I am a member of several professional associations / societies such as the Agricultural Economics Research Association (AERA India), American Economic Association (AEA), International Association of Agricultural Economists (IAAE), The Indian Econometric Society (TIES), The Indian Society of Agricultural Economics (ISAE).

I am in the Editorial Board of Journal of Quantitative Economics published by The Indian Econometrics Society. I was earlier in the Editorial Boards of Agricultural Economics published by the International Association of Agricultural Economists and Indian Journal of Agricultural Economics published by the Indian Society of Agricultural Economics.

I have been a peer reviewer to several International and Indian journals, Book publishers, Universities, Research Institutions and Academic bodies.

I was awarded the Commonwealth Fellowship – 2001-02, by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission, for post-doctoral studies at the University of East Anglia, Norwich, U.K.

I am also the recipient of the D. K. Desai Prize for the Best Paper under General Stream, 1999, in the Indian Journal of Agricultural Economics, awarded by the Indian Society of Agricultural Economics.

 

Ø  Research

My research specialization is in computable general equilibrium (CGE) modelling with a focus on food security and grain management policies; issues in agricultural trade; pricing policies; spatial dimensions of Indian economy; and policies for sustainable human development and economic growth.

I have undertaken several research projects for various national (14th Finance Commission, Planning Commission, Ministry of Finance, Reserve Bank of India, Government of Kerala) and international organizations (Asian Development Bank, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, FAO, IDRC, USAID, USDA, UN-ESCAP, World Bank).

I have brought out over 100 publications including books, monographs, journal articles, book chapters, project reports and working papers many of which have been presented at national / international conferences and workshops.

 

Ø  Teaching

I have been teaching graduate level courses for several years at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR), Mumbai, on Econometrics, and Applied General Equilibrium Models.

Besides, I have also given guest lectures at several Indian universities and research institutions and has been a resource person in technical workshops at IGIDR and elsewhere offering lectures on computable general equilibrium (CGE) models and econometric techniques and conducting computer lab sessions.

 

Ø  Student guidance

I have been a Supervisor / Co-supervisor to 16 Ph.D. students (8 ongoing), and 7 M.Phil. students at IGIDR, Mumbai.
