Abstract: Recent global trends in food safety
regulations mandate the adoption of HACCP, traceability and certification as
means to minimise risk of food contamination and thereby promote food-safety.
Conforming to these regulations requires enormous investments in production
processes as well as in information generation and information processing. This
paper discusses some issues around these regulations and their implications for
India.
