DESCRIPTION:\n\n\nSpeaker: P Bhanumati\nDeputy Director General\nMinistry of Statistics and Programme Implementation\nGovernment of India\nDate and Time: April 7\, 2021\, 16:00 – 17:30\nLink: Click here to join the meeting \nWebinar organised as part of the research initiative Nurturing Accountability\, Governance and Resilience in Indian Cities for Sustainable Development and Growth (NAGRIC) which is housed in IGIDR and supported by a grant from Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH\n\n\n\nAbstract of Talk: The core of the talk will be on concepts\, measures\, data\, and methods pertaining to urban environmental accounts. The talk will draw upon the work presented in EnviStats India and the challenges in the construction of accounts and indicators for tracking progress under Sustainable Development Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) will be discussed. The relevance of SEEA for Urban SDG’s will be explained using examples. The importance of alt-data like Global Human Settlement Layer (GHSL) of the EU Joint Research Centre for construction of such indicators will be highlighted.\n\nAbout the Speaker: An officer of the Indian Statistical Service\, P Bhanumati is Deputy Director General\, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI)\, Government of India. She is presently posted in the Social Statistics Division. In recent years\, she has extensively worked and also written on System of Environmental-Economic Accounting (SEEA) – Experimental Ecosystem Accounting. She is associated with the publication of EnviStats India and was Project Manager on behalf of MoSPI on the Natural Capital Accounting and Valuation of Ecosystem Services (NCAVES) project in India.
