First, it decomposes poverty change into growth, inequality and population effects across states of India. Second, it measures inclusiveness for poverty change through a notion of shortfall sensitivity. Third, it computes nutritional deprivation by using nutrition-specific and household-specific norms.

  • Srijit Mishra et al (27 Feb 2017-10 Sep 2020, refers to my association) Special Programme for Revival of Millets in Tribal areas of Odisha (Odisha Millets Mission) is an action research initiated during my secondment as Director, NCDS, which has been funded by Government of Odisha. A unique aspect of the programmes is its institutional architecture where the Government, Civil Society and the Academia have come together to complement and supplement each other for a pro-people initiative. Started in 2017-18 in 30 blocks across seven districts, the programme has expanded to 76 blocks across 14 districts by September 2020. Many reports and policy briefs have been put up till September 2020. An analysis of year one of intervention (2017-18), compared to baseline, indicates that yield has more than doubled and value of produce has more than trebled. The initiative has been appreciated by National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog and has envisaged interest among other state governments and multi-lateral  institutions for global  lessons in the International Year of Millets.
  • Srijit Mishra et al (27 Feb 2017-10 Sep 2020, refers to my association) Special Programme for Promotion of Integrated Farming in Tribal Areas. This is another action research during my secondment that started with me as its principal investigator with similar institutional architecture as the millet initiative. It facilitates convergence across line functionaries. In September 2020, the Government of Odisha had taken an in principle decision to expand this to additional areas.

6504: Contemporary Issues in Human Development and Policy during Jan-Jun semester (see course outline for Jan-Jun 2024 here). I have taught a version of Human Development and Poverty also at the National Chengchi University, Taipei, Taiwan (Spring 2015). The course discusses conceptual aspects such as Sen's Capability and Rawls' Justice among others, issues of measurement, governance and participation, developmental issues of education and health and other related areas. For hands-on experience, students have to do a field-survey as part of the course requirement.
6311: Doing Econ and Beyond during Aug-Dec semester (see course outline for Aug-Dec 2023 here). This emerged during the pandemic when one observed that students are taking much longer to get themselves registered for their PhD thesis after their coursework. After two years, one sees that the course has value even after the pandemic situation has eased. 9002: Research Methodology. The focus in here has been on logic (arguments, fallacies, INUS condition) and Popper’s falsification among others. I also taught this In Aug-Dec 2023 when it was used as a prior (if not a prerequisite) leading to 6311 Doing Econ and Beyond. Earlier, at GIPE, I have taught courses/modules on ‘Statistical Prerequisites’ and ‘Microeconomics’.
