IGIDR Technical Guide

1. Connect to Network Drives

1. Double click on the Network Neighbourhood icon, > Select Entire network > Select
the
machine/group > Right click on the Service / Folder > Select the Map Network Drive
>Select
Drive Name.
2. Alternatively, if you know the service, Directly Right click on the My Computer icon >
Select
Map network Drive > Select Drive Name > Type the service path. (e.g. \\STORAGE\soft)

2. Connect IGIDR LAN through VPN

1. open your browser and type https://150.107.115.242 or
https://14.139.112.194
2. When prompted type your username and password which you used to login on computer center
lab.
3. Click on CTERM from the screen .
4. Once you login to CTERM you can use all the software /databases you used to access inside
igidr.
5. Alternatively you can download hysecure vpn client or App and install in your computer or
tablet.
Give any of the above ip as hysecure server address , enter your domain id and password then
connect”
Note: Terminal server
profile are temporary. Please do not store
your data
in terminal server and store them in your allotted storage space after processing.The
terminal
server profile will be cleared without any notice.

3. Connect to UNIX systems

The following are the major UNIX systems at IGIDR.

CONNECT TO UNIX SYSTEM USING SSH

1.Click on Start > All Programs >SSH Secure SHELL, Select SSH Secure Shell Client. or
you may
click SSH icon on your desktop.Then click on quick connect.
2.Connect to Unix systems
  • a.In the Host Name field, type system name(example:BRAHMA/REDHAT)
  • b.In the User Name field, type your user name.
  • c.In the Password field,type your password.
3.You will now be logged in to your home directory.

4. Available servers and softwares

We have two common Laser Printers in the Computer Centre and Network Printers for faculty
and staff
printing in each floor of every block.

5. Connect to Terminal Server

From WINDOWS interface:

  1. Click on Start > All Programs >Accessories>Communications, Select Remote
    Desktop
    Connection.
  2. Connect to Remote Desktop Connectoion dialog allows you to specify the Computer for
    the new
    connection.
  3. Type term-srv or cterm to
    connect to the
    Remote Desktop Connection.
  4. Then Type your User Name and Password (provided from Computer Center).
  5. You will Find the Remote Desktop on your machine.

From UNIX interface:

  1. Click on Applications > Internet > Select Terminal Serve Client.
  2. Type Computer Name cterm. And User Name Which is provided
    to you.
  3. Click on Connect button.
  4. You will find Remote Desktop on your machine.
Note: Terminal server
profile are temporary. Please do not store
your data

6. Connect to Network Printers


To Add a printer in your (IGIDR Domain) profile the steps are:
  1. Go to Start ->Printers and Faxes
  2. Open Printers and Faxes.
  3. Under File Menu, click Add a printer.
  4. Then click next.
  5. Click on network printer, or a printer attached to another computer, and then click
    next.
  6. Click Find a printer in the directory, and then click Next.
  7. Click the Browse button to the “IGIDR” Location, and then click” Find Now”.
  8. Select the preferred printer name, and then click OK.

7. Connect to Internet


Setting for Internet Explorer /Edge :
  1. Choose Automatically proxy Settings

You can alternatively authenticate with firewall with no proxy setting in your browser.


Setting for Chrome /Mozilla :
  1. Start Chrome/ Mozilla Firefox browser.
  2. Choose Automatically proxy Settings

8. Use Gauss

Gauss is available on Terminal server.

Connecting to a Gauss From WINDOWS:
  1. Click on Start > All Programs >Accessories>Communications, Select Remote
    Desktop
    Connection.
  2. Connect to Remote Desktop Connectoion dialog allows you to specify the Computer for
    the new
    connection.
  3. Type term (192.9.10.246) to connect to the Remote Desktop
    Connection.
  4. Then Type your User Name and Password (provided from Computer Center).
  5. You will Find the Remote Desktop on your machine.
  6. Then click on the Start >All Programs > Gauss.

9. Stata


1.STATA For Windows


From WINDOWS interface:
  1. Click on Start > All Programs >Accessories>Communications, Select Remote
    Desktop
    Connection.
  2. Connect to Remote Desktop Connectoion dialog allows you to specify the Computer for
    the new
    connection.
  3. Type cterm.igidr.ac.in to connect to the Remote Desktop
    Connection.
  4. Then Type your User Name and Password (provided from Computer Center).
  5. You will Find the Remote Desktop on your machine.
  6. Then click on the Start >All Programs > and select the state programs.

From Linux/UNIX/MAC interface:
  1. Click on Applications > Internet > Select Terminal Serve Client. or you can
    install
    CORD in Mac or any RDP client like RDP from Microsoft
  2. Type Computer Name cterm.igidr.ac.in And User Name,
    PasswordWhich
    is provided to you.
  3. Click on Connect button.
  4. You will find Remote Desktop on your machine.
  5. Then click on the Start > select the stata program

10. Tex

  1. Map Network Drive T: as \\Storage\soft > go to T: and
    choose
    Livetex folder or MikTex. and run setup
  2. Follow the Instruction On the Screen.

11. How do I restore a deleted file or folder

All your data stored in storage server is available to compute, redhat and terminal server
and all
windows machines. Once you login to Unix machine your data is available on
/home/your-account and
from windows you can access your data by mapping as network drive ie \\ntxstorage\home\your-account.
The back of your data is taken every day on monthly basis so if you delete any file or
folder
accidentally in Unix or windows environment you can restore from your client pc. From
windows after
mapping network drive right click on the folder from which your file or folder is deleted.
Then
choose tab previous version ->then click the version of the folder or file of the
particular day
and click on view. Select the file or folder and then do copy and paste to your original
location or
new location.
Note for users: At a time you can
work on your file either on Unix or Windows. So
while
accesing it under windows disconnect from Unix and viceversa.

12. GAMS

  1. Using remote desktop connect to term server gams.

13. DEA

  1. Map Network Drive as \\storage\soft”
  2. To Create a shortcut for DEA, on your desktop press right button of your mouse,click
    on new
    then shortcut .On Command line type the command J:\dea\deawin.exe”
    & Finish.

14. Prowess

Using Remote desktop to cterm.igidr.ac.in and on your desktop click prowessiq icon :
  1. On screen you will be prompted for user id and password . You can take the common
    user id
    igidr and password form Helpdesk or you can get one on your own from registering
    yourself on
    CMIE website

15. Clineole CAPITALLINE DATABASE

Online access from browser
  1. https://capitaline.com/Externel-Access-IPLogin.aspx
  2. Register your selft with login and password.
  3. Login and use the capitalline database only from IGIDR VPN or inside igidr campus

16. OxMetrics

OxMetrics with modules PcGIve,STAMP,PcGets,G@RCH and Ox Professional is available at the
terminal
server term.igidr.ac.in.

17. How do I create Pdf file on TERM Server

  1. Open your word/excel/power point files or any application.
  2. Choose print.
  3. Select the printer PS and print it.
  4. It will ask for the name of the fil:w e, give the name. example:- test.ps or
    test.prn
  5. Open the adobe acrobat distiller 7.0 from All programs.
  6. Then from file menu, open the file which you have created as per above step (4).
  7. Now it will generate the pdf files in the same location of your source file.

18. FTP

I want to download files (ftp) from other remote computers outside IGIDR. You can download
files
from the Internet using your browser, ie. Netscape or Explorer by the following way.
Use the ftp protocol and the site address. i.e. ftp://x.y.z and follow the instructions (Internet Explorer user
make
sure that you have enable passive ftp in Internet Explorer ( if not do it tools->
internet
option->advanced-> tick on use passive ftp.) from file menu choose login and give your
login
name and password and then you can use normal windows copy and paste to allow transfer.

19. SSH


Installation (Windows):
  1. From Right click on the My computer icon > Select Map network Drive > Select
    Drive
    Name > Type the service path.\\storage\soft”
  2. Double click on F:drive to display all of the directory.
  3. In Double click on SSH directory> Double Click on SSHSecureShellClient-3.2.9.exe
    >
    Click on Continue.
  4. On your Desktop SSH Secure Shell Client AND SSH File Transfer Client icon is
    created.

Connecting to a Remote Host Computer (WINDOWS):
  1. Click on Start > All Programs >SSH Secure SHELL, Select SSH Secure Shell
    Client.
  2. Click on Connect Option From File Menu, or just hit ENTER or SPACE on the keyboard
    when the
    (still disconnected) client window is active.
  3. This brings up the Connect To Remote Host dialog.
  4. The Connect to Remote Host dialog allows you to specify the host name (or IP
    address), user
    name, port number and authentication method for the new connection.
  5. Host Name: Enter the name (or IP address) of the remote host computer in this field.
    Example: brahma.igidr.ac.in to connect BRAHMA.
  6. OR redhat.igidr.ac.in to connect REDHAT or compute.igidr.ac.in to connect compute.
  7. User Name: Enter your user name of respective host.
  8. Port Number: The standard port for Secure Shell connections is 22.
  9. Authentication Method: The standard Authentication method is Password.
  10. Connect: Click the Connect button to connect to the remote host computer.
  11. Cancel: Click the Cancel button if you change your mind and want to abort the
    connection.

Connecting to a Remote Host Computer (UNIX/REDHAT):
  1. Login to your Linux/Unix Session and open terminal window.
  2. After prompt “$” Type command ssh username@
    hostname.example.com
    .
  3. example: hdesk@brahma.igidr.ac.in or hdesk@redhat.igidr.ac.in and Press Enter Key.
  4. Enter Password of your respective account.

Connecting to a Remote Host Computer (UNIX/REDHAT):
  1. Click on Start > All Programs >SSH Secure Shell, Select SSH Secure File
    Transfer
    Client.
  2. From the File menu, select Connect.
  3. In the Connect to Remote Host dialog box:
  4. In the Host Name field, type the host computer’s address (e.g. brahma.igidr.ac.in or
    redhat.igidr.ac.in).
  5. In the User Name field, type your user name for the computer to which you are
    connecting.
  6. Click Connect.
  7. In the Enter Password dialog box, type your password for that computer, and click
    OK.
  8. Transfer files by dragging their icons from one side to the other of the window. You
    can
    copy files from your local computer to your IFS home directory and vice versa.

SSH Secure File Transfer (From Unix System ):
  1. Login to your Linux/Unix Session and open terminal window.
  2. After prompt “$” Type command scp username@
    hostname.example.com:destination_path
    and Press Enter Key.
  3. To transfer folder like mydoc along with subdirectories From brahma.igidr.ac.in to
    your
    folder on compute server give the command.
  4. Example: scp -r mydoc your-account@compute.igidr.ac.in: (
    give
    here your compute password when prompted).
  5. To transfer single file like conf.hmtl.
  6. Example:scp conf.html your-account@compute.igidr.ac.in:
